Use this commercial vehicle loan EMI calculator for a truck, tipper, pickup, taxi, school van or bus. Put in the amount, rate and years to get the instalment, the interest bill and the year end balance. It also works as a general vehicle loan EMI calculator for any vehicle bought to earn money.
A goods or passenger vehicle has to pay for itself. The section on earnings below shows how to check that the EMI fits what the vehicle will bring in, after fuel, driver and upkeep.
At a glance
- Example₹15 lakh at 11% for 5 years
- EMI₹32,614 a month
- Total interest₹4,56,818
- Usual tenure3 to 5 years, sometimes longer for heavy vehicles
- FundingOften a large share of the chassis or vehicle price
- SecurityThe vehicle itself, hypothecated to the lender
Inside the truck and taxi EMI math
It uses the standard reducing balance EMI formula. On ₹15,00,000 at 11% for 5 years, the EMI is ₹32,614 and you pay ₹4,56,818 of interest in total. A larger truck loan of ₹35,00,000 at 10.5% for 5 years works out to an EMI of ₹75,229.
Many lenders in this segment quote flat rates, especially for used commercial vehicles. If the quote does not say reducing, ask, and run it through the flat rate converter before comparing. A flat quote typed directly into this truck emi calculator would understate the cost.
Commercial vehicle loan EMI calculator check: will the vehicle earn it
Run a simple monthly sum before you sign:
| Item | Monthly example |
|---|---|
| Freight or fare income | ₹1,20,000 |
| Fuel | − ₹45,000 |
| Driver and helper | − ₹25,000 |
| Tolls, permits, tax | − ₹8,000 |
| Tyres, service, repairs (set aside) | − ₹7,000 |
| Insurance (monthly share) | − ₹4,000 |
| Left before EMI | ₹31,000 |
In this example, a ₹32,614 EMI is more than the vehicle earns, so the owner would be paying from other income. Options: a larger down payment, a longer tenure, a smaller vehicle or more trips. Use your own route's numbers, and test a lean month, not an average one.
Tenure, down payment and seasonality
Longer tenures lower the EMI but keep you paying while the vehicle ages and repair costs rise. A down payment of 15% to 25% reduces both EMI and risk. Some lenders offer structured repayment, with lower EMIs in the monsoon or off season and higher ones in peak months; ask if your income is seasonal, as in construction haulage or school transport.
A side by side of 10% to 40% down sits on the down payment page.
New, used and electric commercial vehicles
- New vehicles: lower rates, longer tenures, and body building may be funded separately.
- Used vehicles: higher rates and shorter tenures, valuation by the lender, often flat rate quotes.
- Electric three wheelers and buses: higher price but lower running cost; some lenders and state schemes offer support.
Private cars are covered on the car loan page. For farm machinery, see the tractor loan EMI calculator.
Missing EMIs: what happens
Commercial vehicle lenders act quickly on overdue EMIs, adding penal charges and in some cases repossessing the vehicle after notice, which stops your income entirely. If a slow period is coming, talk to the lender before an EMI is missed; restructuring is easier to get when your record is clean. RBI's fair practices rules require lenders to follow due process, give notice and treat borrowers fairly during recovery.
Costs beyond the EMI
- Processing and documentation fees, plus GST.
- Insurance, which is compulsory and often financed with the loan in year one.
- Permits, fitness certificates and road tax.
- Foreclosure charges, common because these are business loans.
Interest on a vehicle used in your business is generally a business expense for tax. Keep the lender's yearly interest certificate for your accountant. Other loan types are listed on the EMI calculator hub.
Frequently asked questions
How much will a ₹15 lakh commercial vehicle loan cost each month?
At 11% for 5 years it is ₹32,614 a month. Use the calculator with your quoted rate and tenure.
Are truck loans quoted at flat rates?
Some are, especially for used vehicles. A flat rate costs far more than a reducing rate with the same number. Ask which it is.
What share of the price must I pay upfront for a truck or taxi?
Often 10% to 25% of the price, depending on the vehicle, your history and the lender.
Can I get a commercial vehicle loan without business experience?
First time buyers can get loans, often with a guarantor, a higher down payment or a slightly higher rate.
Is there a foreclosure charge on a truck loan?
Usually yes, because it is a business loan. Check the key fact statement.
Does this work as a vehicle loan EMI calculator for any vehicle?
Yes. Any vehicle loan on a reducing balance uses the same EMI formula.
