This down payment calculator shows how the amount you pay up front changes your loan, EMI and interest. Type the price of what you are buying, your down payment as a percentage, the rate and the tenure. You get the EMI for your choice, and a table comparing 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 40% down.
It works as an EMI calculator with down payment for a bike, car, phone, appliance or home. The bigger the down payment, the less you borrow and the less you pay in interest.

How the down payment calculator works
The loan is the price minus your down payment. The calculator then works out the EMI on that loan with the usual reducing balance formula. For a ₹10,00,000 car with 20% down, you pay ₹2,00,000 now and borrow ₹8,00,000. Over 5 years at 9.5% that means ₹16,801 a month and ₹2,08,089 of interest.
The comparison table runs the same purchase at six down payment levels, so you can see where the EMI fits your budget and how much interest each extra slice of cash saves.
Bike EMI calculator with down payment
Two wheeler offers often advertise very small down payments, such as ₹10,000. On a ₹1,50,000 bike with 10% down (₹15,000), you borrow ₹1,35,000. At 11% for 3 years the EMI is ₹4,420 and interest is ₹24,110. Paying ₹30,000 down instead cuts the loan to ₹1,20,000 and the EMI to about ₹3,929.
Low down payment schemes sometimes carry a higher rate or fees. Compare the total amount paid in each scheme, not just the down payment. The bike EMI calculator handles the loan part on its own.
Car EMI calculator with down payment
For cars, lenders often fund up to 80% to 100% of the price, but a larger down payment usually earns better terms. On road price means ex showroom plus registration, road tax and insurance, and certain lenders fund only the first part. On a car whose value falls quickly in the first years, 20% or more down also keeps the loan below the car's resale value. The car loan EMI calculator and the used car loan calculator cover the loan side in detail.
Down payment on a home
Because RBI limits housing loans by property value, the least you can put down is 10% on homes up to ₹30 lakh, 20% up to ₹75 lakh and 25% beyond. On top of that you pay stamp duty and registration, which banks generally do not fund. A ₹60 lakh flat therefore needs at least ₹12 lakh down plus several lakh in charges.
Each additional lakh paid up front, on a two decade loan at 8.5%, avoids roughly ₹1.08 lakh of interest. The home loan eligibility calculator checks both the income and property limits.
Phone EMI calculator with down payment
Consumer finance plans for phones and appliances often take a down payment of one or two EMIs. Treat that as part of the price. If the plan says ₹0 down with a high processing fee, compare it with a plan that takes some cash up front and charges less. The mobile EMI calculator and the no cost EMI calculator help compare the offers.
How much should you put down
- Keep your emergency fund intact; do not empty it for a larger down payment.
- Put down enough that the EMI is comfortable in a bad month, not just an average one.
- For things that lose value fast, such as vehicles and phones, a bigger down payment reduces the chance of owing more than the item is worth.
- For a home, a bigger down payment also lowers your interest rate with some lenders.

Frequently asked questions
What share of a car's price should I pay myself?
Lenders may fund up to 80% to 100%, but 20% or more is a sound target. It lowers the EMI and interest and keeps the loan below the car's value.
What is the minimum down payment for a home loan?
Under RBI's loan to value caps, 10% for loans up to ₹30 lakh, 20% up to ₹75 lakh and 25% above, plus stamp duty and registration.
How does down payment affect EMI?
Every rupee you pay up front reduces the loan, so the EMI and interest fall. On a ₹10 lakh car at 9.5% for 5 years, 20% down gives a ₹16,801 EMI.
Is zero down payment a good idea?
It means the biggest loan and the most interest, and sometimes a higher rate. Compare total outgo first.
