Credit Card EMI Calculator

Cost of turning a card purchase or balance into monthly EMIs

Loans and EMICard EMIGST on interestChecked 2 Nov 2026

This credit card EMI calculator shows what it costs to convert a card purchase or an outstanding balance into monthly instalments. Type the amount, the yearly rate your card charges for EMI conversion and the tenure (6 months is 0.5). Add the processing fee to see the full upfront cost. GST at 18% is also levied on each EMI's interest portion.

Card EMIs are far cheaper than carrying a balance on the card's normal revolving rate, but they still cost more than most loans. The comparison below shows by how much.

At a glance

  • Example₹50,000 at 16% for 12 months
  • EMI₹4,537 a month
  • Interest₹4,439, plus 18% GST on it
  • 6 months insteadEMI ₹8,727, interest ₹2,359
  • Revolving rateOften 3% to 3.75% a month on unpaid card dues
  • Card limitBlocked by the EMI amount, freed as you repay

How the credit card EMI calculator works

Card EMIs use reducing balance interest, like a normal loan. ₹50,000 at 16% for 12 months gives an EMI of ₹4,537 and ₹4,439 of interest. The bank adds 18% GST on the interest each month, about ₹799 in total here, and many banks charge a one time processing fee plus GST. So the true extra cost is the interest, plus GST on it, plus the fee.

A 6 month plan costs ₹8,727 a month but only ₹2,359 in interest. If you can manage the higher EMI, shorter is cheaper.

Card EMI vs paying the minimum due

If you pay only the minimum due, the rest of the bill carries the card's revolving interest, often 3% to 3.75% a month, which is 36% to 45% a year, worked out daily from the transaction date. New purchases also lose their interest free period while a balance is carried.

₹50,000 over about 12 monthsRough interest
EMI conversion at 16%₹4,439 plus GST and fee
Revolving at 3.5% a month, paying down steadilyWell over ₹10,000 plus GST, plus late fees if any payment slips

Converting is almost always cheaper than revolving. Paying the full bill by the due date costs nothing at all.

Credit card interest calculator: the daily method

Revolving card interest is usually charged from the date of each purchase, on a daily basis, until the full amount is paid. That is why a balance can grow faster than a monthly rate suggests. The daily compounding page shows how fast 36% to 42% a year snowballs. If you are stuck with a large balance, a personal loan at a lower rate, used only to clear the card, may cost less; compare total costs before switching.

Things to check before converting

  • Rate: banks offer different rates by card type and tenure, and some run zero interest offers with a fee.
  • Processing fee: a fixed amount or a percentage, plus GST.
  • Foreclosure charge: closing the EMI early may cost a few percent.
  • Limit: the full EMI amount blocks your card limit until repaid.
  • Eligibility: some purchases, such as fuel or jewellery, may not be eligible.

For phone purchases specifically, see the mobile EMI calculator; for zero interest shop offers, the no cost EMI calculator.

Credit card loan EMI calculator

Many cards also offer a pre approved loan on the card, sometimes beyond your card limit, credited to your bank account. Think of it as an unsecured loan whose fixed instalment appears on the card bill. Identical math, so the same tool covers it. Compare its rate with an ordinary personal loan before accepting, and remember that a missed EMI is treated like a missed card payment.

Unpaid card dues can grow quickly. If repayments are becoming hard, contact your bank early to ask about a structured repayment plan, rather than paying only the minimum each month.
